Sacred Jewish Space: Greater than the Sum of Its Parts
Ohav Shalom Continues Shabbat Speaker Series Civil rights attorney to share thoughts on LGBTQ and Judaism Albany, NY – Congregation Ohav Shalom welcomes members of the congregation and the greater Capital District Jewish community to another event in its Shabbat speaker series, highlighting issues surrounding the Jewish LGBTQ community. The event will take place on March 9, 2019 and begin at 9 AM.
Guest speaker Seth Madnick Marnin will address congregants with Sacred Jewish Space: Greater than the Sum of Its Parts. Marnin is a civil rights attorney and chair of the board of
Keshet, a national organization that works for the full inclusion of all LGBTQ Jews and their families in Jewish life. He is a native of Albany. “We are so pleased that Seth is coming back to the area, and feel privileged to have him speak with our congregation,” says Rabbi Dan Ornstein. “We strive to make Ohav Shalom a welcoming and comfortable space for all of our members. Issues such as this are important not only to our own LGBTQ members, but to our entire local Jewish community.” Marnin is founder and principal of Workplace Strategies, where he advises and guides nonprofit organizations and individuals on a range of legal issues. Prior to his consulting practice, he served as the vice president for civil rights at the Anti-Defamation League (ADL)
where he oversaw ADL’s domestic civil rights agenda. He has spoken nationally and internationally on LGBTQ issues, hate crime laws, discrimination, civil rights and religious
freedom. Marnin has also served on the planning committee for the National LGBT Bar Association’s Transgender Roundtable and the World Professional Organization for Transgender
Health (WPATH) Legal Committee. Marnin resides in New York City with his wife and their blended family.
