TISHA B’AV OBSERVANCE AT OHAV SHALOM 2019 The 9th of Av – August 10-11, 2019

The day on which the first and second temples in Jerusalem were destroyed, followed by persecution and exile for the Jewish people. According to tradition, it is the day on which the expulsion of the Jews from Spain occurred in 1492. Tisha B’Av is a day of communal fasting, mourning, and remembering. It is also when, according to tradition, the messiah will be born, thus commencing our people’s and the worlds’ redemption from evil.

Saturday Evening, August 10th 

7:00 PM—Shabbat Afternoon Service followed by 3rd meal for Shabbat

8:04PM  Tisha B’Av fast begins 

9:00 PM—Evening Service followed by reading from the Book of Lamentations.

In keeping with the spirit of Tish B’Av, please consider wearing non-leather shoes during the service and reading of Lamentations. Please also consider bringing a flashlight as we will be dimming the lights in keeping with the somber spirit of the evening.

 

Sunday, August 11th

8:30 AM—Tisha B’Av Morning Service (we do not wear Tallit and Tefillin that morning)

7:00 PM—Afternoon Services (We DO wear Tallit and Tefillin for the afternoon services)

8:34pm Tisha B’Av fast ends
