Tisha B’Av, the 9th day of the Hebrew month of Av, is the day on which the first and second temples in Jerusalem were destroyed, followed by persecution and exile for the Jewish people. According to tradition, it is the day on which the expulsion of the Jews from Spain occurred in 1492. Tisha B’Av is a day of communal fasting, mourning, and remembering.
