Ohav Youth Programming

Young Families are Invited to Celebrate Shabbat with our Ohav Shabbat Youth Leaders:

No one knows exactly what the upcoming year is going to look or feel like – but we do know that we want to start thinking about how to make the coming year an awesome one for Congregation Ohav Shalom’s sixth through twelfth graders!
In the next few weeks, we will hold a ‘leadership conference’ of Ohav’s members who are in middle and high school, to begin dreaming about how we – as a youth community – can create spaces and opportunities for us gather together meaningfully and joyfully!
But first, we need to know how to connect with all of our sixth through twelfth graders (and their parents). So, please take five minutes (really, that’s all it will take), to fill out this form so we can reach out to everyone and begin to build the foundation for an amazing year!

Thank you! Ohav Youth Committee      Form Link: https://tinyurl.com/OhavYouthCommunityMembership

Activities for Emotional Well-Being

Do you want to feel more engaged, energized, calm, and purposeful?

If you, or someone you know, are feeling tired, burned out, anxious, depressed, not as engaged as your peers, or just “not yourself,” this group is for you.

We will discuss how to use activities to improve your mood, minimize boredom, increase feelings of purposefulness, and reduce isolation. All of our activities can be modified to ensure your comfort and safety. The goal of this group is to find a healthy balance between our obligations, values, and leisure activities.

Mondays: 1:30-2:20 p.m., 8/17 (no group 8/24), 8/31 (no group 9/7), 9/14, 9/21, 9/28.

NOTE: Please register by the Wednesday before each week’s meeting as we will hold the group only if there are a minimum of three registrants by that date. If there are not enough registrants, you will be notified prior to the scheduled date.

To register: email info@jfsneny.org, call 518-482-8856 or register online here.

Mission Impossible: Parenting During COVID-19

Parents are stretched to the limit, but our kids need us more than ever. If this feels impossible, that’s because it is! Join other parents for a weekly group that offers supportive encouragement on a range of “how tos”:

  • keep young children entertained
  • share work time and space with a spouse
  • address and maintain emotional health
  • making deliberate connections with friends during this often-isolating time
  • and so much more

Please join us if you are up for giving and receiving support as we continue to manage our kids, our families and our own needs throughout the summer.

This group is open to parents of children of all ages (infancy through high school).

Facilitated by: Claire Greenhill, MS

Thursdays, 8:00 p.m., 8/6, 8/13, 8/20, 8/27

To register, email info@jfsneny.org, call 518-482-8856 or register online here.

Two groups coming this fall:

  • Student Chat
  • Coming Up for Air: A Discussion Group for Seniors

In this time of emotional, health and financial crisis, turning to our faith and our community has become more important than ever. Our Rabbis along with Ohav’s Board of Trustees are committed to assisting and supporting you and your needs. We may not be able to be with you in person; however we are only a phone call or email away. If you are in need of prayers, comforting conversations or have any other needs please do not hesitate to reach out to us.   Rabbi Dan, and Rabbi Rena
